UK Ravelry Day 2009 Workshop
11 June 2009
I was very pleased to be able to offer a short 2hr workshop at the UK Ravelry Day. I decided to base the workshop around the principle of felt jewellery- taking the simple spherical bead as a start.
We discussed and investigated the merits and pitfalls of wet felting, needle felting and knitting and felting. Having decided wet felting would be far too messy for the inside of the city hall we explored needle felting as the main practical part of the session.
All participants were given 100g of Toft DK yarn (colour choice their own), a medium needle felting needle and also a small bag full of carded alpaca fleece.
I hope that the basic introduction sparked off imaginations to get creative with felt jewellery- i even heard one lady become inspired to felt all her Christmas baubles this year!
The felting workshops hosted here at Toft are far more focussed on wet felting- a chance to get messy and tackle 3D moulding.
